Your responsibilities are …
Providing overall leadership for all aspects of the Aquatics business centre including short & long term planning, daily operations, and its physical, financial & human resources. You will manage, operate and maintain the Aquatics Centre, ensuring the provision of public swim opportunities, aquatics skill development, health and lifestyle programs as well as provision of pool facility for use by swim clubs, schools, private rentals, and swim competitions. You will also be responsible for all pool operations including programs, staffing, facility and equipment maintenance.

We’re looking for …
Post secondary education, such as a Recreation Administration degree or diploma supplemented by Aquatics certification such as Alberta Pool Operator Certification Level 2, NLS, Standard First Aid and an Aquatic Instructor’s certificate. At least 5 years of aquatic experience in progressively more responsible positions is required along with 2 years of aquatic supervision, administration and/or programming (totalling 7 years experience). Highly developed interpersonal, supervisory, pool mechanical & maintenance skills, as well as good computer skills are all required.

Salary Range: $68,790 to $75,807 plus a comprehensive benefit package and participation in LAPP.

Description:
The Community Services Department is looking for energetic, responsible and qualified individuals to work as Aquatic Instructors at various fitness and leisure centres. We also offer specialized training to assist with finding employment in this expanding market. Responsibilities for an Aquatics Instructor will include:

* Instructing aquatic lessons for children, youth, and/or adults.
* Evaluating class participant performance.
* Maintaining a safe environment for customers and staff in and around the water and at the leisure centre.
* Preparing lectures, evaluations, progress cards, routine reports, seasonal statistics, evaluations and assessment sheets as required.
* Interacting with staff and supervisors to keep current on new techniques.
* Willingness to participate in the applicable in-service programs.
* Maintaining instructional equipment used during lessons.
* Performing other related work as required.

Job Requirements:

* Completion of the 10th grade, and minimum of 16 years of age.
* Possession of Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification.
* Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion.
* All awards must be kept current according to certifying organizations’ standards.
* Other Aquatic Instructor Certifications would be considered an asset: Lifesaving Society Instructor Award (LSI), Lifesaving Society “Swimmer” Instructor award, and Sears I Can Swim (ICS) teacher certification.

Description:

The Recreation Facilities Services Branch is currently recruiting energetic, responsible individuals with a strong commitment to customer service and safety, to work as Lifeguards at various fitness and leisure centres. Responsibilities include:

* Lifeguarding, safeguarding and supervising the customers using the facility in accordance with established policies and procedures
* Reacting to emergency situations and performing First Aid as required
* Providing quality customer service to facility patrons
* Providing lead hand direction to junior staff
* Preparing and submitting administrative reports as required
* Checking and regulating chemical feed equipment to ensure adherence to public health standards, in addition to adjusting and making minor repairs and backwashing filters
* Performing scheduled water tests
* Directing and performing maintenance duties including the cleaning of the swimming pool, locker rooms, washrooms, offices and other amenities located within the facility
* Acting as a shift supervisor in the absence of the Facility Foreman or the Facility Programmer
* Performing other related duties as required

Job Requirements:

* Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade
* Minimum of 18 years of age
* Possession of National Lifeguard Service Certificate -.L.S.S.C., Aquatic Emergency Care Award – L.S.S.C., Basic Rescuer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, and Bronze Cross – L.S.S.C. or lifeguard certification which has been recognized and approved by the Community Services Department
* Knowledgeable in using respiratory protection including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is required for some duties included in this position
* Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring is a requirement for this position
* AED Provider awards would be an asset
* Must have excellent communication and customer service skills

Assets:
* Experience in working with the public, lifeguarding major swim meets
* Experience with pool mechanical systems and facility HVAC mechanical systems
* Certifications in the RFP Pool Operators Level I and Building Operators Level I an asset
* MS Office and computer experience

NOTE:

The Town of High Level requires a responsible & motivated individual for the position of
Lifeguard/Instructor, commencing immediately.
This position is 40 hrs/wk with a comprehensive benefit package after 3 months.
Reporting directly to the Aquatic Centre Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Instructor’s main responsibility is to ensure the safety of the public. This position will be responsible for lifeguarding facility programs, instructing facility swimming lessons, and performing day to day janitorial duties. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and public relation skills.

Requirements:

The minimum level of education required to perform these duties are:
• Completion of Grade 12 Diploma;
• Minimum of 18 years of age;
• Current NLS and WSI award
• Current Standard First Aid and/or AEC
• Preference will be given to LSI and Pool Ops 1 certified candidates or willingness to obtain

The minimum experience required to perform these duties are:
• Minimum of 1 year previous lifeguard/instructor experience;
• Clear Child Welfare & Criminal Records check (to be supplied by the applicant).

Aquatics Coordinator – Department of Recreation

Reporting to the Assistant Recreation Director, this position is responsible for the administration, operation and programming of the Iqaluit Swimming Pool.

The incumbent will supervise the Iqaluit Swimming Pool and instruct the Red Cross Swim programs, Lifesaving Society Swim Patrol and Leadership programs as well as effectively train, develop, supervise and mentor staff. This position also ensures the safety of patrons and staff through the development, implementation and enforcement of policies, procedures and regulations.

Qualifications:
• The incumbent must possess a diploma or bachelor’s degree in the recreation field, or equivalent.
• Four years (minimum) experience working in the aquatics field as a lifeguard and swimming instructor.
• Two years (minimum) experience in a supervisory role.
• The incumbent will also have experience in pool operations including water testing, working with chemicals, filtration systems and general pool maintenance.
• Knowledge of Public Pool Regulations is required.
• Excellent administrative, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills are essential.
• Flexibility regarding work schedules, including evenings and weekends is required.
• A class V Drivers Licence is required.
• The ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset.

ARPA is looking for individuals interested in being ambassadors for an inspiring, empowering, and transformative approach for serving children and youth called “Kids at Hope.”

You provide the passion and enthusiasm, and we’ll provide ongoing resources, learning opportunities, and support. While being selected as a Kids at Hope Ambassador doesn’t have a specific cash value, it will provide you with what you need to make a powerful difference in the lives of children and youth in your organization and community.

Through the ACE (Active, Creative, Engaged) Communities initiative, ARPA is pleased to launch Kids at Hope in Alberta. The Community and Protective Services Department is seeking individuals with the certifications and experience in an aquatics environment. Good communication skills and leadership are required for public relations as well as maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for the public.
