Situation:
The YMCA of Greater Vancouver is one of the Lower Mainland’s leading charities, with an operating budget of more than $28 million. The YMCA provides services in membership, childcare, camping, literacy, employment and community services to over 50,000 participants annually.

The YMCA Child Care Division, the largest provider of licensed child care in the lower mainland, serves over 1500 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years at over 50 licensed child care facilities throughout the Greater Vancouver area.

Nature and Scope:
Reporting to the Recruitment Manager, the Coordinator: Recruitment and Literacy Programs will manage the development and delivery of literacy programs and coordinate full-cycle recruitment for volunteers and staff within the Child Care Division.

Working collaboratively within the Recruitment Team, comprised of the Recruitment Manager and Administrative Assistant, the Coordinator will support staff and volunteer engagement at all levels and manage literacy program development and facilitation at multiple program sites.

Responsibilities:

Major Responsibilities:
• Develop literacy enriched programs and standardize resources to assist Child Care sites in the delivery of high quality literacy programming
• Responsible for the full-cycle recruitment of volunteers and staff for YMCA Child Care Programs
• Manage staff and volunteer database, along with Recruitment Manager and Recruitment Administrative Assistant, to track and report on statistics
• To develop and deliver training that will support volunteers and staff in the implementation of literacy programs
• To research potential funding sources and be responsible for grant applications including: key proposals, implementation of grant requirements, and grant reconciliation
• Maintain presence at Volunteer Events, Career Fairs, Educational Institutions, and Literacy Events to promote our organization and publicize current employment and volunteer opportunities and literacy programs
• Work directly with candidates, staff, volunteers, community members, and the YMCA Management Team to promote community engagement and literacy initiatives in Child Care Programs
• To be responsible for Canada Summer Job seasonal program facilitators including: staff selection, support and development.
• Manage existing partnerships; proactively look for other potential partnerships within the community and build/develop where appropriate

Qualifications:

Qualifications:
• Post Secondary Degree/Diploma related to working with youth, families, and/or community
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years supervisory and staff/volunteer coordination experience
• Training and/or work experience with children and/or youth and families in a group child care, recreational or community setting
• In-depth knowledge of research and best practices in family and community roles in children’s asset building programming, including literacy, global, social, value, and service based activities
• Proven skill in all aspects of project management, as well as program development and facilitation
• Strong ability to multi-task, in response to variety of requests for information
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience with grant writing and fund proposal
• Excellent computer skills/training utilizing Microsoft Word & Excel, Internet and email programs; some work with design programs to develop promotional materials and work in database management are assets
