The Community and Protective Services Department is seeking individuals with the certifications and experience in an aquatics environment. Good communication skills and leadership are required for public relations as well as maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for the public.

Responsibilities include lifeguarding, instructing swimming lessons, basic swimming pool operations and maintaining a clean, safe and enjoyable environment.

The successful candidate will have,
• NLS / AEC
• First Aid / CPR
• Red Cross Swimming Instructor certification
• Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team

The following qualifications would be an asset,
• Swimming Pool Operator certification
• Advanced Instructor Certifications

These are casual positions ranging from 10 – 40 hrs per week. Shift work may be required.

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard plans and prepares swimming lessons, instructs students at their appropriate level in accordance with guidelines set out by Red Cross and Lifesaving Society programs and provides feedback to participants and/or parents with recommendations for improvements. He/she performs lifeguard duties and participates in meetings and in-service training, clinics and club events. She/He opens and closes the aquatic facility, ensures the safety of all participants while in the pool facility and assists in maintaining the pool office, pool deck and storage areas in a neat and tidy manner.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma AND some experience
OR
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience will also be considered

- Current National Lifeguard Service Certificate (NLS) qualifications
- Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
- Current Red Cross certification
- Current Lifesaving Instructor certification

Language requirement: English essential, bilingualism (French / English) an asset.
