AQUATIC SUPERVISOR

The Town of Barrhead is presently accepting applications for the position of Aquatic Supervisor for the Barrhead Kinsmen Aquatic Centre. The position involves the operation of a 25 meter lane indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, and kiddie pool. The Aquatic Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the overall regulation of the aquatic facility, including pool maintenance and operations, staff training, supervision and scheduling, administration/implementation of programs and activities, as well as guarding and instructional activities. The Aquatic Supervisor will report to Recreation Director and work in collaboration with recreation staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

    · National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
    · Pool Operator I (with preference given to level II or III)
    · Current Standard First Aid and CPR (or equivalent)
    · Lifesaving Instructor
    · Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
    · Strong Public Relation Skills

*Additional qualifications will be considered an asset. Some of these may include NLSI, WSIT, FAI.

Stride Entries

Purpose: Introduce stride entries

Description:

    1. Have students practice different ways to enter the water without their heads going under.
    2. Practice entering the water maximizing their surface area (spread arms and legs).
    3. Have students enter minimizing their surface area (bring arms and legs close to the body).
    4. Have students practice taking large steps on land.
    5. Have students take large steps into the water. Emphasize the step, not a jump.
    6. Have students take a large step into the water using their maximum surface area.
    7. Demonstrate a stride jump and have students practice.

Boating Equipment Relay

Purpose:             Identifying necessary boating equipment required by law

 

Equipment:        Boating equipment, other pieces of aquatic equipment

 

Description:

1.       Organize students into 2 or 3 teams.

2.       Opposite each team, 15 m away place a pile of equipment. Each pile must contain some required boating equipment.

3.       Students swim to the equipment, pick up a piece of equipment required by law for boating, and swim back with it on their stomach

4.       The relay concludes when one team brings back all the required boating equipment.

RATE OF PAY: Starting Wage $16.15/hr

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

The City of Brooks requires a Pool Shift Supervisor I in the Recreation & Parks Services Department. This is a permanent position, primarily involved at the Aquatic Centre. The Incumbent must be experienced in basic pool operations, custodial and trouble-shooting techniques related to Aquatics. The incumbent will supervise and participate fully as a Lifeguard, and instruct Red Cross and Life Saving Courses. The incumbent will also assist the Aquatic Supervisor and Pool Shift Supervisor II’s in the implementation of Aquatic programming.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Grade Twelve education or equivalent is required.

2. National Lifeguard Service

3. Water Safety Instructor

4. Standard First Aid Certification/ Aquatic Emergency Care

5. Pool Operator I Certificate

6. Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License.

DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Lifesaving Instructor / Bronze Examiner.

2. One to two years of aquatic experience

Genesis Place of the City of Airdrie, is currently accepting applications for an experienced lifeguard to fill the full time salaried position of Shift Leader to join our dynamic team of recreation specialists who encourage and promote the safe enjoyment of aquatic activities.

Applicants should be mature and responsible, exhibit strong leadership qualities, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to multitask. As part of the Aquatics team, key accountabilities include; lifeguarding, instructing aquatic programs, supervision of staff and pool area, oversee pool operations and maintenance, leadership of junior staff, as well as administrative duties as required.
