Boating Equipment Relay

Purpose:             Identifying necessary boating equipment required by law

 

Equipment:        Boating equipment, other pieces of aquatic equipment

 

Description:

1.       Organize students into 2 or 3 teams.

2.       Opposite each team, 15 m away place a pile of equipment. Each pile must contain some required boating equipment.

3.       Students swim to the equipment, pick up a piece of equipment required by law for boating, and swim back with it on their stomach

4.       The relay concludes when one team brings back all the required boating equipment.

Float Plans

Purpose:             Understand the Importance of Making a Float Plan

Equipment:        Dry Erase Board and Marker

Description:

1.       Spread activities out over a number of lessons.

2.       Explain a boating situation to students; the boaters have equipment to check the weather, but forgot their maps. They are lost. What else should they have done to prepare?

3.       Have students suggest what information needs to be in a float plan. Ask who sets the float plan.
