The primary goal is to coordinate academic and social supports for the Mentoring and Tutoring program by developing the programming activities and resources, and by maintaining positive relationships with community and program partners who offer support with added resources. Other responsibilities include volunteer management and special initiatives in volunteer recruitment and retention.This is a union position.
Responsibilities:
- Plans and implements the steps to be taken to meet the goals and objectives of the program. Prepares plans for the implementation of the mentoring and tutoring program including how each of the elements will be achieved, either directly or in partnership other organizations and providers. Designs, monitors and evaluates program delivery. Develops aspects of academic and social supports that reflect on the strengths and capacity as well as the barriers and challenges faced by the youth in programming.
- Recruits and manages the volunteers necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the program.
- Works with the Program Director and administrative support to ensure appropriate procedures and accountability for volunteer data records and programming budgets for Tutoring and Mentoring.
- Acts, when necessary, as a direct liaison with community and program partners to assist in resolving issues, incidents or challenges.
- Shares the student logs, staff and volunteer information regarding student participation in Tutoring or Mentoring with the appropriate staff in a timely manner and follows the necessary confidentiality and security of all records.
- Secures the best possible sites for regular tutoring and mentoring programs, as well any needed program resources and monitor all routines, on site set up, entry, exit, safety and security at each program site.
- Ensures communications with all parties are timely and effective for on-going student development, tracking and support
- Identifies service delivery gaps and needed supports to develop within the Program’s context, or available through outside resources or strategic partnerships.
- Participates in regular meetings, as required, with the staff team, Host Agency and within the community, including committee or working group involvement with community networks and programming partners. Participates as a team with the other Coordinators. Works in a safe manner.
Qualifications:
- Masters in Social Work, Education, or a combination of education and experience
- Experience with current curriculum expectations and youth programming in tutoring
- Experience with programming for different social needs and age characteristics
- Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation
- Direct experience with resources for special learning and language needs of students
- Direct experience with resources for youth in areas of legal and health challenges
- Direct experience building partnerships with community or social service agencies
- Experience training staff on relationship building, tutoring and mentoring techniques, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Evidence of high levels of organization and time management skills, as well as communication skills, both oral and written, for a variety of audiences
- Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
