Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society is a non-profit organization that provides long term services to families healing from the experience of family violence.
Child & Youth Follow-up Counsellor
Discovery House has an immediate opening for a Child & Youth Follow-up Counsellor. Reporting to the Child & Youth Coordinator, this position will be responsible for providing follow-up counselling to children. The Child & Youth Follow-up Counsellor will:
Responsibilities:
Engage children in one-on-one and group counselling
Maintain current knowledge and practice in the area of family violence, particularly regarding how children are affected
Maintain accurate documentation and client files
Demonstrate an awareness of community resources
Qualifications:
Skills
Must have an understanding of family violence and the affect on children
Must have an understanding of domestic violence as a personal and social issue
Strong and written and oral communication
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
Demonstrated facility with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
Education & Experience
- Bachelors or Masters in Child & Youth Counselling or related field
- Experience counselling children
- An understanding of Child & Youth Counselling practice
- Current CPR and First Aid certification desirable
- Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle are a must
